Summary: Dean is on a team of paranormal investigators and they know they’ve struck gold when, within minutes of being inside one of the top ten most haunted sites in the US, they get several strong sightings. When the ghosts start being a lot more active than they’d anticipated, the team knows they’re in for a Hell of a ride, especially when they start hearing strange noises from upstairs and encounter not only the most powerful spirit they’ve ever seen, but a real, living flesh-and-blood Omega who desperately needs their help.
Remember when SPN scared the shit out of you? When the monsters of the week made you peek out between your fingers at the TV? When the twist at the end caught you unaware? This fic captures those elements and is creepy as fuck!
Dean and his team of ghost hunters find Cas while investigating a haunted hotel. The author describes the tormented denizens of the hotel in a way that had my skin crawling. Even after Cas has been rescued, the horror doesn’t let go. A warning for plot related dubcon incest (see the author’s note at the beginning of the fic). This is an ABO fic, yet the alpha/omega dynamics take a back seat to the ghost story that drives the plot. This spine-chilling tale is perfect for the season!
Note: This work is part of the ABO BB so check out the art on LJ.
The World Crashing Around Us by thepinupchemist [author spotlight]
Word Count: 36,000
Summary: During a storm in September of 1987, Dean and Sam hear something hit their roof. When they brave the backyard to investigate, they find a fledgling angel. A story about best friendship, spoiled plans, and love, in four parts.
When rebellious, 8 year old Castiel escapes his guardian and flies into a thunderstorm, he begins a friendship with Dean that spans decades. Cas is immediately drawn to Dean and innocently declares his intent to claim Dean by bringing him a gift. Ignorant of angel traditions, Dean accepts Cas’ offering and gives him a gift in return. This initial exchange starts them down a path of deep friendship muddied by miscommunication. Things escalate as Dean matures and starts dating (and no, he is not dating Cas).
We follow the characters through critical points in their lives beginning when our characters are 8 and continuing when they are 13, 17 and 29. The author has an amazing ability to match the language and style of the fic to the different ages of our boys. I truly felt like I was listening in on the thoughts and conversations of an 8 yr old! Although this fic definitely has a high fluff factor, there is also an underlying message about the importance of valuing yourself independent of your relationships with others. On a somewhat shallow note – angels…wings…Mmmmmm, if you get my drift!
Note: There is fan art in the body of the work that you will miss if you download the ePub.

Dean Winchester’s life is… well, it’s not great. He’s a gym teacher, he’s in his thirties, and he can’t seem to keep any part of his life straight. When the aftermath of a one-night stand goes awry, Dean is dragged kicking and screaming out of his cozy little closet and into the harsh light of reality.
Enter: Castiel Novak, the new history teacher, who knows full well that life gets crappy when you don’t allow yourself to live it in the way it needs to be lived.
A Million Ways to Go by ChasingRabbits
Word Count: 91,000
Summary: Castiel is a preacher’s son living in a world of black and white. Pragmatic and dutiful, he doesn’t understand why anybody would want to make waves. And then the Winchesters move in down the street.
This fic had me from the very first page:
Michael left for basic training two weeks before they ended up having to bury Lucifer.
Lucifer was sixteen and angry. And now that’s all he’ll ever be.
The Novak family is broken. The tragedy of their son’s death has the adult’s deep in denial, leaving their other children alone to deal with the consequences. Each copes in different and increasingly self-destructive ways. Sam and Dean have their own family issues as Sam starts a new school again and Dean works odd jobs while John is on the road hunting down supernatural threats.
When Dean and Cas meet, the story that unfolds is funny, melancholy, and of course, romantic. Dean and Cas’ relationship begins slowly and builds into something both of them need in the face of hardship. The life of teenagers with absentee parents is revealed as Dean, Cas, Gabriel and Sam deal with drugs, depression, and ultimately the haunting of the Novak household.
I loved Cas’ dry humor, Dean’s bravado and Sam’s desperate attempts at normalcy. The writing in this fic was just phenomenal with humor and angst circling each other in a way that was simultaneously heartwarming and heart-wrenching. Overall, this was a stark look at the damage inflicted by silence. The importance of familial bonds, be they formed by blood or not, is beautifully illustrated.

Author Castiel Novak has finally hit the big time, with a book based on his failed college relationship with a brilliant painter. He’s put all his pain behind him, but at a book signing, he comes face to face with Dean Winchester for the first time in twelve years, and the reunion doesn’t go like Cas hoped. Dean’s a broken man, with a lot of scars and secrets, shoulders weighed down by his demons and self loathing.
Cas sees a second chance with the man he’s never stopped loving, but Dean’s moved on, and is about to get married. Sam launches a “brilliant” plan to reunite his brother and his best friend, but Cas is worried it will all blow up in their faces, and he’ll go through the agony of losing Dean a second time.

Castiel is a rare Omega. Not only does he resent his place in society but he has spent a lifetime suppressing his true instincts.
He takes a night job as an emergency services dispatcher so that he can hide away from a world that he has no place in.
Over the years he has developed an obsessive and very real phobia for everything that threatens his solitude. He has recurring nightmares that terrify him. Nightmares that fill his mind with images of being taken and claimed against his will.
He only wants to be left alone and unmated but fate seems to have other plans for him when he unexpectedly meets someone that seems to want to help.
He starts to suspect that his protector is actually an Alpha male who wants to claim him for life.
Castiel is scared that he might not be able to stop himself from falling in love.

Sam and Dean Winchester are professional lawbreakers and criminals. That being said, they’re awfully good at minding their own business and staying out of trouble. That is, until they’re landed with an escaped slave and what might just be the story of their lives. On the run and with enemies on every side, all Dean can think about is finding a way to keep his brother safe and get the cops off his tail. But things are never that easy, and this particular complication is one of the heart, and comes ready-packaged with a pair of very blue eyes…

The Winchesters find out that angels do not reproduce the same way as humans. Castiel explains that his vessel is not pregnant, his grace is simply splitting to make a new angel. But, even the best laid plans sometimes go awry, especially when Heaven is involved. When the Apocalypse is nigh and Castiel is running out of grace, Dean takes it upon himself to take care of Castiel and the new angel and ends up learning how much the angel means to him. Sam on the other hand, must make amends with his own angel.
